Information and Referral Assistance
Information and Assistance is Only a Phone Call Away
The Information and Referral Specialist (I&R Specialist) can guide you through finding the services you need, assist with long-term care planning and explain eligibility for services. The I&R Specialist will also:
- assess needs,
- refer you to appropriate providers,
- locate resources for specific needs,
- and if needed, contact those resources for you.
We are here to advocate for individuals when necessary and help seniors obtain services they may be entitled to but not receiving.
I&R Specialist main source of information is through SC Access www.scaccesshelp.org , a comprehensive web site database of services for seniors and adults with disabilities. The good news is all this information is available to consumers too! Whether you are a senior citizen, family member or caregiver this user friendly site can give you information about anything from Alzheimer’s disease to weatherization of your home.
Simply go to: SC Access Aging and Disability Information
- search by county and by keyword or service needed,
- review information to make your choice,
- contact agency for services,
- call your I&R specialist if you need further assistance.
The I&R Specialist is also the local contact person for the Lt. Governors Office on Aging Emergency Rental Assistance Program. This program, made possible through a grant from the South Carolina Housing Authority, offers emergency rental assistance to people over 60 with income at 100% of the poverty level or less. A person meeting this criteria, who falls behind in their rent due to unforeseen circumstances, such as unexpected medical bills or higher than average utility bills, may apply at their local Area Agency on Aging office or call the I&R Specialist for assistance.
